NEW ORLEANS -- Federal authorities say a New Orleans man has pleaded guilty to two counts of mail fraud and one count of theft of federal funds related to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Fifty-three-year-old George Magee entered the pleas Friday in U.S. District Court, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.
The news release says that Magee, in addition to making his own claim for federal assistance, also submitted two applications using other people's identities. Letten's office says Magee stole more than $7,700 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Treasury. Sentencing is set for June. The maximum prison sentence is 20 years on each mail fraud count and 10 years on the theft count.
