MARRERO, La. -- Deputies arrested a Marrero man minutes after the suspect allegedly raped an elderly woman, according to deputies.
Kenneth Adams, 51, was booked Sunday in the incident in the 400 block of Avenue L in Marrero.
The 83-year-old victim entered her home to find Adams in her living room, said Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Fortunato said Adams allegedly forced the victim onto her bedroom bed, removed her clothes and raped her. He then stole several pieces of jewelry before fleeing the home, Fortunato said..
Within minutes of receiving the 911 call, officers were able to arrest Adams in the 6600 block of the Westbank Expressway, Fortunato said. Adams had pieces of jewelry and a crack pipe in his possession.
Under questioning Adams admitted to breaking into the home and to "physically touching the victim below her waist," Fortunato said, but denied raping her.
Adams faces charges of aggravated rape, aggravated burglary, simple battery, resisting arrest, battery of a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of stolen property.
Adams is being held in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. He had a history of robbery and narcotics arrests.
