NEW ORLEANS -- A candidate who would widely be considered a front runner is once again thinking about a run for mayor.
Eyewitness News has been told that Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu is re-evaluating the race.
Landrieu said a few months ago that he would not be a candidate.
In addition to discussions about his possible entry into the race, a poll was commissioned on his behalf as a possible candidate.
Eyewitness News Political Analyst Clancy DuBos said it all raises some interesting questions.
"If he gets in now, the first thing he's going to have to do is explain why he's vacillating, which is what he did four years ago when he took what seemed like an eternity to make up his mind to run when he was the clear front-runner and the clear alternative to Ray Nagin,” DuBos said. “This time, he got out in July, issued a statement praising the other candidates. They're still out there, what makes them so not fine now?"
Reached by telephone this afternoon, a spokesman for Landrieu said that the lieutenant governor is flattered that people want him to run for mayor, but that “he hasn't changed his mind at this time.”
