NEW ORLEANS – An Orleans Parish deputy happened upon a shooting that left one man in critical condition and he chased down and captured the suspect who was taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident occurred around 7 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Claiborne and it caused the shutdown of several major travel arteries during rush hour.
According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy was in the process of conducting another investigation when he saw a fight between two people in the street. The arrested suspect, 27-year-old Issac Hill, pulled out a weapon and fired two shots at the victim, wounding him.
The deputy then approached the scene and the sheriff’s office said Hill drew his weapon before tossing it away. The deputy chased down Hill and later recovered the weapon.
Hill is in custody for questioning. He is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault and armed robbery. The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to his stomach and is now in critical condition at University Medical Center.
