METAIRIE, La. - A Chapelle student will serve as homecoming queen at Archbishop Rummel 27 years after her mother had the same honor, school officials said.

Alexa Rachal Accardo will reign as Rummel's 2013 homecoming queen. Her mother, Michaela Rachal was homecoming queen in 1986.

The school said it is the first time in Rummel history that a mother and later her daughter served in the role.

Alexa and Michaela are part of a Rummel family. Michael married Keith Accardo (Rummel class of '82). Their three children include Keith Jr. (Rummel 2012), Alexa, who attends Chapelle, and Colin, an eighth grader at Rummel.
