MARRERO, La. - A Westwego man was killed when his motorcycle was struck by a Ford truck and burst into flames.

The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Silverlily Lane and 4th Street.

According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Colonel John Fortunato, the motorcycle, driven by 28-year-old Mario Ginorio, was traveling east on 4th street when a Ford truck driven by 47-year-old Patrick Derrick Lee of Harvey turned into its path. At the point of impact, Fortunato said the bike burst into flames.

Ginorio was pronounced dead on the scene. Fortunato said witnesses reported that Lee stopped his car, got out to look at the victim and then fled on foot. Lee was apprehended a short time later and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on one count of negligent homicide, felony hit and run and failure to yield.
