NEW ORLEANS -- A man has died in an Easter Sunday accident on the interstate in New Orleans East, according to police.
The accident happened just before 9 a.m. on I-10 westbound near the Michoud exit.
NOPD spokeswoman Officer Hilal Williams said the driver, who hasn't been identified, "for reasons unknown" left the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle burst into the flames, and police pronounced the man dead on the scene.
The exact cause of death will be unknown until the coroner conducts an autopsy.
Police haven't said whether driver impairment was a factor.
The identity of the driver won't be released until the familyis notified.
