Officials from the New Orleans Fire Department say they are making progress putting out that long-running marsh fire in New Orleans East which has been burning since August.
The NOFD says the owner of the property installed a paved road leading to the fire in the southern end of the marsh giving firefighters the ability to move in heavy equipment to extinguish that part of the fire.
All efforts now will be focused on extinguishing the fires in the northern area of the marsh. Those fires are in a remote area which is much less accessible.
Officials say they are reluctant to set a timetable to have it out.
