NEW ORLEANS -- A man already in custody in a Texas prison is now accused with the murder of a cab driver in Algiers in May 2007, according to the New Orleans Police Deparment.
Marcel Anderson, 23, is wanted for the second-degree murder of Willie Simmons, a 60-year-old shot and killed behind the wheel of his cab in Algiers on May 30, 2007, according to NOPD spokeswoman Remi Braden.
Braden said detectives were able to match the bullet casings from the scene to guns owned by Anderson. A witness then positively identified Anderson as the shooter.
“This was an exceptional job by (Detective Decynda Barnes). When DNA and fingerprint tests didn’t get results, she turned to ballistics and arranged more interviews to get the information she needed to make an arrest," said Superintendent Ronal Serpas.
Anderson is currently being held in Dallas on a $200,000 bond for a residential burglary and parole violation. He will be extradited back to New Orleans for the murder charge.
