NEW ORLEANS -- A New Orleans police sergeant and her son, also an officer, were arrested late Wednesday on charges of simple battery.
Police responded to a nightclub late Sunday after Sgt. Emelda Blanco and Officer Gerald Blanco were involved in an altercation.
Blanco, 50, a 25-year veteran of the department, and her son, Gerald Blanco, 25, a third-year police officer, were arrested in connection with a disturbance that happened early Sunday morning outside Robertson’s Vieux Carre Lounge in the 1500 block of Basin Street, according to a statement from the NOPD.
The NOPD confirmed that the mother and son officers were arrested Wednesday after an investigation by the Public Integrity Bureau.
Both were suspended without pay while the investigation is onging by the Public Integrity Bureau, according to police.
Evidence included a surveillance video that provided grounds for the arrests.
