NEW ORLEANS – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a person of interest in relation to a police-involved shooting, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Investigators say a three-year veteran of the force was shot multiple times while responding to an armed robbery just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Officer John Passaro was taken to University Hospital’s intensive care unit in serious condition.

The person of interest is described as black, approximately 5’9” in height, about 140-160 pounds and between the ages of 29 and 31. He is said to have a thin build and brown complexion. He has an inch-wide chin strap beard and no mustache.

He may be wearing a blue jacket and blue jeans, police said.

He was last seen at the bus stop on the lake side of St. Claude Avenue near Poland on Saturday between 6:30 a.m. and 7:05 a.m.
