New Orleans Crime Statistics

NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Police say on average, crime is down in New Orleans, but violent crimes increased compared to last year.

According to statistics released by the NOPD, murder is up by one percent, with two more homicides so far this year compared to last. Rape is up by 59 percent. Property crimes are down. Burglary saw a 22 percent decrease, and auto theft is down by 21 percent. Total crime is down this year compared to last by about 14 percent.

Police say when you compare the numbers based on population, murder is down by about four percent, and overall crime is down by almost 19 percent.

Why would anyone believe the stats released from NOPD with Riley in charge?
