NEW ORLEANS – Police are investigating an afternoon murder in Gentilly, marking the third killing in five hours.

New Orleans police were called to the scene of a shooting near the intersection of Lombard and Touro streets before 3 p.m.

Earlier, NOPD responded to the scene of a shooting that left two people dead in the Hollygrove neighborhood.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. in the 4200 block of Hollygrove.

One man was found dead in the street. Another person was also killed at the scene. Both victims have not been identified pending notification of family members.

"According to investigators," said NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot in a statement, "three, possible four suspects approached the victims in the 9000 block of Pear Street and open fire.  The victims ran to the 4200 block of Hollygrove  Street where they were fatally wounded by gunfire."
