MARRERO, La. - A single-car accident claimed the life of a front seat passenger Saturday afternoon in Marrero.
According to State Police, a Kia Optima drive by 38-year-old Joseph L. Marshall was traveling south on La 45 when it went off the road around a curve. Police said Marshall over corrected and ran off the road and slammed into a tree.
The front seat passenger, John D. Pickney, 38, of Marrero, was taken to West Jefferson Hospital where he later died.
Three back seat passengers - two juveniles and a woman - suffered minor to moderate injuries. Police said all of those in the vehicle were wearing seat belts.
Marshall, who suffered minor injuries, was treated at Ochsner Medical Center on the westbank and later brought to the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center where he was booked on charges including: vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury (three counts), reckless operation, possession of a schedule 1 controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired license plate and no proof of insurance.
