PLAQUEMINES, La - Due to the voluntary evacuation of lower Plaquemines Parish because of Hurricane Ida, schools will be closed tomorrow in Plaquemines Parish, according to school spokeman Ronald C. Bateman.

School officials made the announcement around 3:45 p.m.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School, located at  8970 Highway 23 in Belle Chasse will be closed as well, according to spokeswoman Sarah Comiskey.

In anticipation of the onset of hurricane force winds from Hurricane Ida, Parish President Billy Nungesser is issuing a voluntary evacuation for the following areas of Plaquemines Parish: Conoco Phillips to Venice on the West Bank and White Ditch to Bohemia on the East Bank. The Belle Chasse Auditorium (8398 Highway 23) will be open as of 8 a.m. Monday morning, November 9  to receive evacuees.

If residents need transportation assistance to the BC Auditorium please call 504-274-2470. All schools will be closed Monday and the situation will be re-evaluated for further school closures as it develops.

Storm surge is expected to reach 5 – 7 feet on both lower East Bank and West Bank areas. Wind speed gusts may reach up to 75 mph. For more information, call 504-297-5600.
