SLIDELL, La. – A man led police on a high-speed chase after fleeing a hit and run accident and trying to hide his drugs in a bush, according to the Slidell Police Department.
The chase began after an accident on Hwy. 11 at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
Mohamed Alhashimi, 21, was driving on Hwy. 11 when he ran into the back of a Toyota Camry that was stopped at a red light near the Fremaux Avenue intersection.
Slidell Police Department Detective Daniel M. Seuzeneau said Alhashimi then jumped out of his truck and hid heroin in a nearby bush. After seeing that witnesses saw him ditching the drugs, he got back into the truck and fled the scene, Seuzeneau said.
Alhashimi led police on a high-speed chase, and after stopping, he jumped out of his truck and tried to run on foot. Police got him into handcuffs not long after.
Seuzeneau said police later found heroin and syringes in the bush near the crash site.
Alhashimi faces charges of possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony hit and run, felony flight from an officer, careless operation of a motor vehicle, and driving while intoxicated. It’s his second DWI.
The passengers in the Camry suffered minor injuries.
