NEW ORLEANS - The chair of the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, Barbara Major, stepped down on Tuesday and said she "just needs a break.'"

Major was chair for about three years.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu appointee Sal Longoria was elected by the board as the new chairman.

Longoria is a New Orleans attorney who represents mostly Cuban-American concerns. He has been on the RTA board since 2010.

Major will remain on the board of commissioners.
