NEW ORLEANS - Although ferry service is outside of the mission of the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority, the RTA said they supported an agreement between themselves, Veolia (a transit management firm) and the state.
"(We) support continued ferry service on some basis that would not jeopardize current and future bus, streetcar service," the RTA said on Tuesday.
The group said they are in discussions with Veolia and the state about continuing service on the Mississippi River.
The Department of Transportation and Development is taking over the Algiers Ferry in July on a reduced schedule while negotiations proceed with the RTA.
Veolia Transportation, which provides services to the RTA, has talked with DOTD about providing the service in place of DOTD.
