NEW ORLEANS -- Creating a community of readiness and response was the theme of a disaster preparedness roundtable Uptown.
Guest speakers from agencies of disaster preparedness and recovery talked Saturday about how local governments should work during disaster.
There was also information on protecting property and resources for recovery.
"We just want people to always be aware and prepared. We don’t want them to think that just because we didn’t have a storm last year, that they should be less prepared this year, because the lack of preparedness is what gets us into a bad situation if we do have a disaster,” said Jessica Vermilyea, director of the Greater N.O. Disaster Recovery Partnership.
“And a more prepared community is more resilient, no matter what the disaster is, whether it’s hurricane tornadoes, wind storms or just a personal disaster in their own lives," Vermilyea said.
