A 79-year-old woman forced a SWAT standoff in Slidell, La., after threatening to shoot a City Court judge, police said Friday afternoon.
Carolyn Hinkle was arrested for public intimidation, Slidell Police Captain Kevin Foltz said, after waiving a gun at officers attempting to serve her a warrant.
Hinkle told a corrections officer on the phone that she would shoot Judge James Linz, who had presided over a previous case involving her in which she was found guilty.
A warrant was issued but, upon arriving to arrest her, police encountered Hinkle waiving a gun at them. A negotiator eventually talked Hinkle into releasing the gun, Foltz said. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and, once released, was arrested.
Officers found a loaded Smith and Wesson .38-caliber handgun insider her home.
The standoff was caused by a chain of events that starter earlier in the day. Hinkle called the city jail looking for an answer as to whether she would be able to get a gun back that was taken from her following a March 2010 arrest for aggravated assault.
At 10 a.m., Hinkle called the Slidell Police Corrections Department demanding that they return her gun.
