NEW ORLEANS - For the first time since 1946, a commercial airline operated out of Lakefront Airport.

Southern Airways Express' inaugural flight to New Orleans touched down Monday.

The airline, which operates out of the Flightline First terminal, provides daily service to and from Gulf Shores, Memphis and Destin.

Fares range from $129 to $249 each way and most are direct flights.

Travelers won't have to deal with baggage fees, parking fees or Transportation Security Administration and are instructed to arrive 15 minutes before their flight.

Complimentary iPads and head phones are provided for passengers to use during the flight.

The airline said they plan to add Birmingham as a destination. They also said they plan on adding several other destinations in Fall 2013.
