MORGAN CITY, La. - Much of Morgan City was without power Wednesday morning due to an explosion that caused a huge fire at the Jospeh Cefalu Steam Plant.

Plant workers said they could feel the building shake when it happened on Thursday.

All workers were safely evacuated and residents have been ordered to stay inside, authorities said.

Power will most likely be restored by Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Morgan City officials said the power outage has had no impact on drinking, but officials asked residents to continue to minimize water consumption from toilets, bath tubs and sinks due to limited power resources with city sewer services.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion.
