NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane University Senate has voted to ban all tobacco products on the campus during its meeting Monday, according to a report on the web site of the school's newspaper, the Hullabaloo.

The report says the school would phase in enforcement over an 18-month period starting in August 2014, when warnings and education would be given to violators. Starting on Jan. 1, 2015, violators would face a minimum $25 citation and conduct procedures.

The Hullabaloo quoted Tulane President Scott Cowen as saying the policy was long overdue.
