NEW ORLEANS – Day two in the trial of a man accused of murdering a Gentilly restaurant owner focused on testimony from the victim's father.
Attorneys representing the defendant, Tyrone Wells, cross-examined Jose Vazquez Sr., who arrived at the scene a few minutes after an alarm was triggered at the family restaurant in 2003.
Vazquez detailed the scene, where he said he found his son and Wells lying on the ground, both bleeding.
Prosecutors say Wells tried to rob Vazquez, and after a struggle, stabbed him to death.
This is the second trial in the case. In march, jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict, which is necessary in a capital murder case.
During that trial Wells claimed he was defending himself, saying the two got into a fight over money he says Vazquez owed him.
