NEW ORLEANS -- A walk for justice was held Wednesday night for an NOPD officer shot in the line of duty.

Dozens marched from NOPD’s 5th District station to the Dollar General store at St. Claude and Poland avenues. That's where Officer John Passaro was shot on Feb. 23.

The NOPD and local leaders spoke about ending the violence across New Orleans.

“I think we will pull together,” said Councilman James Gray. “I think someone is going to come forward and tell what they know about this case. I think others are going to come forward and tell about what they know about other cases. We need to create an environment where assaults on each other is not the norm."

Police say the 41-year-old officer remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
