NEW ORLEANS - A man wanted in connection with a violent beating and kidnapping that was caught on surveillance video has turned himself into police.

A spokesman said that 35-year-old Elvin Terrell walked into Orleans Parish Prison around 5:30 p.m.

Terrell was charged with one count of domestic second-degree battery, one count of domestic kidnapping, child desertion, child endangering and cruelty to a juvenile.

The incident was caught on surveillance tape around 5 a.m. Friday in a hotel in the 300 block of Loyola.

Police say Terrell was seen in the video pacing the lobby floor and then arguing with a woman. The video shows the suspect knocking the woman to the ground and dragging her outside where the beating continued.

Eventually, the semi-conscious woman was tossed into a car and driven away. Another woman is seen in the video, though it is unclear what relation she had to the incident.

Police have said they believe the fight was domestic in nature.

Police also found a 6-year-old boy alone in one of the hotel rooms that was booked by one of the people involved in the incident. Police said they made some contact with an individual involving the young man Friday, but that they were refusing to come pick him up. The child was put into protective custody. is in protective custody and this time.
