ST. BERNARD, La. - A Violet insurance saleswoman was arrested by State Police for allegedly writing bogus policies and stealing nearly $3 million, according to State Police spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey.

State Police arrested Jolie Bonvillian, 40, Tuesday on charges, which include theft of $2,945,988, 85 counts of insurance fraud, 339 counts of bank fraud and 424 counts of forgery, police said.

A licensed insurance agent in St. Bernard Parish since 1993, Bovillian  became the focus of an investigation when Progressive Insurance Company tipped off State Police investigators that she had written an unusually large amount of commercial policies, police said.

“The investigation revealed Bonvillian had generated 85 fraudulent commercial auto polices utilizing bogus policyholder names, international drivers license information and vehicle information,” said Matey. “The Progressive commercial auto policies were created to facilitate 339 fraudulent premium finance agreements. During the investigation, troopers also learned Bonvillian had misappropriated insurance premium cash payments made to her for existing legitimate insurance policies.”

Bonvillian was booked in the St. Bernard Parish Jail and ordered to cease and desist any activity in the insurance business, said police.
