LAFOURCHE, La. -- A 63-year-old woman died in a three-vehicle accident Tuesday morning, according to state police.
Bourg resident Brenda Cunningham, 63, died in the accident, which happened at the intersection of LA 3087 and LA 182 in Lafourche Parish at about 10 a.m.
Officials say Houston resident Curtis Taylor, 49, rear-ended Cunningham's vehicle while it was stopped at a red light. Cunningham's vehicle then hit a truck driven by 39-year-old Jason Champagne, which was also stopped at the stop light.
Cunningham, who was a passenger in the vehicle, died in the hospital. She was wearing her seatbelt improperly, according to officials, with the shoulder position of the seatbelt positioned under her arm. The driver in Cunningham's vehicle, 63-year-old Kenneth Cunningham, sustained minor injuries and was wearing his seatbelt properly.
The other parties involved in the crash were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Taylor was cited for careless operation with additional charges pending.
Substance abuse is not expected to be a factor in the crash, but a toxicology result is pending.
