NEW ORLEANS -- Police are looking for a woman who allegedly used a handgun and robbed three United Cab drivers in little more than an hour, all in one neighborhood, according to a statement from the New Orleans Police Department.
"In two of the incidents the drivers were called via dispatch to the locations. The first being the 2300 block of Chippewa and the second being the 500 block of Adele. The third took place in the 900 block of Toledano," said the statement from the NOPD.
The first robbery occurred around 3:15 a.m. A woman got into a cab in the 2300 block of Chippewa Street, according to police.
After getting into the cab, the woman pulled a gun on the driver, forced the cab driver to turn over some cash and then drive to a parking lot near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and Chippewa, where she got out and fled, according to police.
Around 4:15 a.m., a second cab driver was robbed in the 500 block of Adele Street. Much like the first robbery, a woman pulled a gun on the driver and ordered the driver to give up any cash.
"The perpetrator also took the victim's ATM card and ordered him to a bank in the 3200 block of Magazine. The victim was then ordered to take $400 out of his account and give it to the perpetrator," said a statement from the NOPD. The cab driver was forced to take the woman to the 900 block of Toledano Street.
While still in the second cab, the woman apprarently spotted a third cab and ordered the driver to stop. The armed robber, according to police, took the cab driver's keys and told the victim to wait there while she got out and approached the third United Cab.
The third cab driver was in the 900 block of Toledano waiting to pick up a fare, when the woman came upon the driver and pulled a gun. "The perpetrator also took his cell phone from the vehicle. At this time the victim’s fare approached and the perpetrator again held her jacket as if she had a gun and demanded the fare’s/victim’s money. He complied. The perpetrator then fled riverbound on Toledano," said police.
The woman is described by police as a skinny, dark-complexioned black female, approximately 5-feet, 4-inches and in her mid-20’s, according to police. In one robbery, she was "having braces, short hair, tattoos on arms, tight black dress and a cream with black stripe fedora hat," according to police.
