WESTWEGO, La. - A woman whose body was found in a ditch in Westwego by a passing motorist Sunday was stranged, according to the coroner's report.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman John Fortunato said the woman, identified Monday as 37-year-old Nicole Messon of New Orleans, was killed by asphyxia due to strangulation. He said the case is now being investigated as a homicide, but there are no suspects or motives known.

Sheriff Normand said officers responding to a 911 call found the unidentified woman lying near a ditch wearing blue jeans, a black shirt, black tennis shoes and black socks.

Her body was found in the 11000 block of Nicolle Blvd. in Westwego.

A gray and black hoodie was lying next to the body.
