KENNER, La. - On Friday morning, Transportation Security Administration officers discovered a gun in a passenger's carry-on at a checkpoint at Armstrong International Airport, according to TSA officials.
The 9mm was the second found at the airport in three days.
Once the gun was found, airport police were alerted and they took possession of the firearm, TSA said.
This marks the eighth gun discovered at the airport in 2013. In 2012, 14 guns were discovered, according to the TSA.
Firearms similar to the one discovered on Friday can only be transported in checked baggage, TSA officials said.
Passengers who bring firearms the checkpoint face a civil penalty from the TSA.
