Board to discuss plans for defunct Six Flags theme park

NEW ORLEANS – The city’s Industrial Development Board is set to meet Tuesday downtown to discuss the future of the Six Flags theme park site in New Orleans East.

The 220-acre site has been vacant since Hurricane Katrina. According to a report released in August, the value of the main park sits at $3 million, and an adjacent, undeveloped 65-acre site is valued at $2260,0000.

That number is strikingly different from the $54.5 million appraisal on file at the city assessor’s office, according to The Advocate.

Annual operating expenses for the land, including grass cutting, insurance, and security, total $210,000.

Several developers have shown interest in the site, but plans throughout the years have fallen through.
