BELLE CHASSE, LA. - A boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Plaquemines Parish near Belle Chasse Wednesday night.
According to the Plaquemines Parish OHSEP, the advisory is for the northside of the Belle Chasse Bridge to the parish line. This area includes the Planters Canal area, 100-500 block of Engineers Road, Timber Ridge Street and streets located near the tunnel.
Parish officials say the Belle Chasse Water system experienced low pressure after someone damaged a water main. The incident caused low water pressure in the area for nearly 30 minutes.
“Because of the temporary drop in water pressure due to a subject breaking the water line near the Water Tower on Engineers Road, the water in this area is of questionable microbiological quality,” a statement from Plaquemines Parish said.
The boil advisory will remain in effect until rescinded by PPG. PPG is offering the following tips to disinfect their water:
It is recommended that all customers disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by the following means:
Boil water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil. (The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a clean bottle, pouring it from one clean container to another, or by adding a small pinch of salt to each quart of water that is boiled.)
Again, please be sure to disinfect your water prior to consumption until you have been advised otherwise.
