Florida man killed in wrong way crash

BOGALUSA, La. -- A Florida man was killed in a crash Sunday evening after reportedly driving the wrong way on the highway.

According to State Police, around 3 a.m., police were called to a crash on LA 21, three miles south of Bogalusa. Tallahasse resident, Daniel Elwood, 25, was killed in the crash.

Elwood was driving southbound in the northbound lane of LA 21 in a 2005 Hyundai Elantra when he crashed head-on into a northbound vehicle driven by a 17-year-old woman from Covington.

The woman suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted from the scene to North Oaks Medical Center, and the front seat passenger in the car with her was treated for minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor with the woman, and troopers also obtained blood samples from Elwood.  Both samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
