METAIRIE, La. - Food trucks could once again find a foot hold in Jefferson Parish.
The parish council is taking up a measure Wednesday that would welcome the mobile food vendors once a week.
The food trucks were run out of the parish shortly after Hurricane Katrina. But under the new resolution, they could be allowed to set up on private property in Fat City on Tuesdays from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Leaders have been trying to revitalize the once very popular area and make it into a community center and economic development engine.
Councilmember Cynthia Lee-Sheng proposed the resolution for Fat City, which is located within her district.
A study would be set up by the Jefferson Parish Planning Department and the Jefferson Parish Advisory Board to look into what regulations might be needed for the temporary stands and vehicles that would allow for sales of food and beverages.
