METAIRIE, La. – An officer responding to a disturbance call stopped to investigate the sound of gunshots, eventually coming upon the murder of a 15-year-old, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

At 6:50 p.m., Officer Paul Theriot was en route to Giuffrias Avenue when he saw a large crowd standing in front of 2220 Manson Avenue.

Within moments, Theriot heard a number of gunshots and the crowd dispersed, leaving behind Joey Davis, 15, who was suffering multiple gunshot wounds, deputies said.

A black man armed with a handgun and wearing a black hoodie and tan pants was seen running into the alley between 2216 and 2220 Manson.

Theriot chased the suspect but was unable to catch him, according to JPSO.

Davis was transported to University Hospital, where he later died.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
