HARVEY, La. - A Jefferson Parish deputy collided with a taxi van while responding to an emergency call on Tuesday morning.
Around 3:45 a.m., the deputy drove through a red light at the intersection of Gretna and Manhattan boulevards in Harvey.
He had his strobe lights on when his squad car hit the woman's West Bank Marrero cab.
"The driver failed to yield to the emergency situation," according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The van flipped upside down and came to rest on the neutral ground.
The fire department extricated the woman from the car, JPSO said.
The deputy suffered internal injuries, including a concussion, and the taxi driver suffered bruising.
He was transported to West Jeff and she was transported to Ochsner Westbank. Both are expected to recover.
The matter is under investigation, the sheriff's office said.
