HARAHAN, La. - The public auction for Colonial Golf and Country Club in Harahan did not happen Wednesday morning as planned.

The club filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Jefferson Parish officials said.

The 88-acre golf course closed on Jan. 31 after being open for more than 80 years.

The club owes more than $7 million in debt.

Harahan Mayor Vinny Mosca is planning on meeting with members of the national non-profit "Trust for Public Land" to discuss the future of the important tract of land.

The trust stepped in to buy the Lafitte Greenway Property in New Orleans until the city can pay for it. Mosca wants to investigate a similar type partnership to save the greenspace.
