METAIRIE, La. - Dozens of dead fish popped up in the canal at West Esplanade near Oaklawn on Friday.
It's not uncommon to have fish die when there's a stretch of dry, hot weather with a depletion of oxygen in the water, a spokeswoman for Jefferson Parish said.
The parish plans to backwash the canal.
