Driver killed in multi-car accident during Monday's early morning hours

METAIRIE, La. - Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, a three-car accident killed a driver near the intersection of Airline Highway and Maple Ridge Street in Metairie.

Accoridng to State Police, Joseph Spunizo,38, of Kenner, was headed north on Airline when he started to veered off the road toward the shoulder. Spunizo then swerved into the oncoming lane. 

Spunizo, who was not wearing his seat belt, hit two vehicles in the oncoming lane before flipping his truck, according to State Police. He was pronounced dead on the scene.  One woman, Nicole Bonneval, 24, of Metairie, who was hit by Spunizo suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Toxicology reports are pending and the crash remains under investigation, according to State Police
