NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board recommended that a former Jefferson Parish judge be permanently disbarred.

The Louisiana Supreme Court removed Judge Joan Benge from the bench in 2009, after finding she let her relationships influence a ruling in a personal injury case.

Benge voluntarily gave up her law license on an interim basis until her discipline has been decided.

Initially, a committee recommended that Benge be suspended for 18 months, but the state disciplinary board overturned that recommendation saying it was too lenient.

Benge has until early April to lodge an objection with the court.
