METAIRIE, La. -- A hospital consultant has now agreed to appear before the Jefferson Parish Council with the company attorney.
The council asked Kaufman Hall to publicly disclose its final selection in the search for a private operator, to manage and lease Jefferson Parish's two public hospitals.
A special hearing scheduled for Thursday was canceled after the firm notified the parish attorney by email, that it would not be able to make the meeting because of a scheduling conflict.
Council members say since Kaufman Hall was paid $1.3 million to whittle down the list of finalists, it should be compelled to publicly disclose its final choice.
The finalists include Louisiana Children's Medical Center, HCA and Ochsner Health Systems. The parish would award the winning suitor a 30 year contract to lease West Jefferson Medical Center and East Jefferson Hospital.
The West Jefferson management board chairman claims Kaufman Hall has recommended all three suitors at different times in recent months.
Jefferson Parish Council Chairman Chris Roberts says a future date to hear from Kaufman Hall has yet to be finalized.
