JEFFERSON, La. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will commence closing U.S. Highway 90 at the Jefferson Parish/St. Charles Parish line at midnight tonight. Hesco baskets will be placed at the point of closure as a protective measure against storm surge in a gap in the hurricane protection system. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop B will be stationed on both sides of the highway to redirect traffic.
Juvenile Court for the Parish of Jefferson will be closed Tuesday, August 28, 2012, through Wednesday, August 29, 2012, unless further extended.
Garbage and recycling collection services scheduled for Tuesday, August 28th, and Wednesday, August 29th are cancelled. Residents should not put any garbage, trash, recyclables, or bulky waste at the curb for pick-up until after the threat of Tropic Storm Isaac is over. All loose trash such as tree limbs should be bundled, tied down, and placed in a location where the debris is protected from high winds. All trash drop-off sites and the parish landfill are closed on Tuesday, August 28th, and Wednesday, August 29th.
The temporary shelter that opened for Lafitte, Crown Point, and Barataria residents at the Terrytown Gym is closed and residents have been moved to a Red Cross shelter at Westside Primary School, located at 2500 Westpark Avenue, Hammond, LA.
The hotline to request information regarding transportation for medical special-needs citizens is now closed. Jefferson Parish citizens with special medical needs requiring assistance with self-evacuation can call Emergency Management 349-5360.
