HARVEY, La. - On Thursday morning, shocked neighbors watched detectives investigate a Harvey murder scene where a man on a bike was shot many times.
The victim, 47, who was apparently on his way to work, and his bicycle were found in an empty lot between 1612 and 1622 Estalote Street.
He was chased down, targeted and shot death by the murderer around 4:10 a.m., according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
“When the officers first arrived on the scene, they found a number of spent shell cases in a trail about a half a block down from where the victim was finally found lying in the field,” said Col. John Fortunato. “The [45-caliber] shell cases indicated that it appears to be they followed the victim and shot him multiple times along the way until he landed in the field, at which time we found three additional spent casings there.”
The victim was found wearing a construction style vest, JPSO said. Many people in the neighborhood work similar jobs that start early in the morning, according to residents.
Neighbors were surprised because the area is usually quiet.
Deputies wrapped up their on-scene investigation around 6:30 a.m. There are no suspects or motives, deputies said.
