HARAHAN, La. – A New Orleans police officer was arrested for a DWI in Harahan early Sunday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Eddie Polite, 57, was driving in the 1800 block of Hickory Avenue when he passed Harahan Police officers, who were working a crash scene, police said.

Polite was driving the wrong way down a one way street and he didn’t have his headlights on, police said.

Initially, Polite did not want to stop for them, but when he did, officers could smell alcohol on his breath.

Polite attempted to take a field sobriety test, but could not properly finish it, police said.

Harahan police booked Polite in to the Jefferson Parish Community Correctional Facility on charges of driving while intoxicated, violation of obedience to officer, violation of headlights required and driving against traffic.

He was placed on emergency suspension without pay, and will remain suspended pending the outcome of a thorough Public Integrity Bureau investigation, police said.
