KENNER, La. - Kenner police arrested a man in a pedestrian robbery, and as part of their investigation, they discovered a stash of assault weapons.
While police were in pursuit of an armed robbery suspect, an ATF canine hit on a stash of weapons, Police Chief Steve Caraway said.
Joshua Preston, 20, held up a woman at gunpoint and robbed her at a church on Roosevelt near Airline, authorities said.
An officer spotted a man matching that description and chased him to a house, where just a few feet away multiple guns were found.
Three of the assault rifles were loaded, which is a tremendous concern to the Kenner police, according to Caraway.
“We have a good idea of what they were going to be or may have already been used for,” he said.
Police are running ballistics tests on the guns to see if any were used during another other crime.
At least one of the guns had been reported stolen.
Preston is in custody on an armed robbery charge. Weapons charges are still pending, Caraway said.
