Metairie, La. - Three businesses along Veterans Boulevard were damaged by a 2 alarm fire Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Fire Department says just after 1 p.m. a fire was reported in a dumpster in front of a business in the 4300 block of Veterans Blvd. Once firefighters were at the scene, a second alarm was struck out of an abundance of caution due to how close the dumpster was to the buildings. The fire was brought under control at around 1:45 p.m.

JPFD says three businesses sustained damage from the fire. Mattress Direct and Saints Quarterback Drew Brees’ Jimmy John’s Restaurant sustained water damage. Both of these businesses were having work done to the roofs. The dumpster where the fire started contained parts of the old roof. A third business, Brooklyn Pizzeria, also sustained damage.

The restaurants were open at the time of the fire, however, JPFD says customers were safely evacuated. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
