KENNER, La. - In parts of the country, there is no mistaking Friday is the first day of winter.
A snowstorm has walloped the nation's mid-section right at the start of the busy Christmas travel period.
The delays impacted some travelers flying out of New Orleans.
At noon, eight flights had been cancelled that were set to leave Louis Armstrong International Airport. A number of flights to the east coast and Midwest were delayed.
There are over 120 daily departures, so the amount of flights canceled is a small portion, airport officials said.
"It is imperative. that you check with your airline, make sure your flight is on time. Not only out of New Orleans. You don;t want to get stuck at a hub city," Michelle Wilcut of Armstrong Airport said.
Christmas is not as busy of a travel time as Thanksgiving since the holiday period is longer, and travelers are spread out, Wilcut said.
The construction on the access road should be completed before the Super Bowl, she said.
