JPFD investigates two-alarm fire in Metairie

The homeowner says the electricity and gas had been turned off and the house was in foreclosure when a fire broke out in her Metairie home early Monday morning.

METAIRIE, La. -- Jefferson Parish Fire Department firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze early Monday morning in 2300 block of Turnbull Street in Metairie.

According to JPFD, the fire may have started around 3:30 a.m., Monday, September 5.

The homeowner, Pam Zuppardo, who was not home during the fire, said the house was in foreclosure, and she had two days to move out of the home. Zuppardo said the electricity and gas at the house had been turned off, but she said a generator may have been running at the time of the fire.

Her son was believed to be staying at the house, but Zuppardo said she had not heard from him.

Firefighters searched the home for the son and a pet dog, but neither were found inside.

JPFD said the back patio collapsed due to fire damage, and the house to the right of the home sustained some fire damage.

As of 5:30 a.m., the fire was under control.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined and remains under investigation.
