Kenner, Harahan city councils join others asking Yenni to resign

Jade Cunningham talks about the growing list of officials asking Yenni to step down.

KENNER, La. - Thursday, two city council meetings held in different parts of Jefferson Parish both came to the same conclusion; a resolution to ask Parish President Mike Yenni to step down.

One meeting was in Kenner, the other in Harahan.

On both agendas was a resolution asking Yenni, to step down.

“Parish President Mr. Yenni, you must resign for the good of the parish," said District 1 Councilman, Gregory W. Carroll.

In Kenner, the council listened to a few people demand Yenni resign.

“First of all I want to say I support this resolution 250 percent," said one man.

Others agreed.

“I’d like to see Mike Yenni step down," said another man in support of the passing of the resolution.

Several council members then spoke on the matter before voting unanimously to pass it.

"I will also be voting in favor of this resolution because I believe it’s in the best interest of the people I represent," said District 5 Councilman, Dominick Impastato, III.

In Harahan, a similar resolution was brought up to the council, this one by Councilman Craig Johnston.

“Its national news and it’s definitely putting a bad name on Louisiana and Jefferson Parish," said Johnston. ”We try and do what’s right for our citizens, this isn’t reflective on how all of us are.”

Residents upset by Yenni's actions were also at the meeting, mainly to show support for the passing of the measure.

"I don’t think it’s appropriate for a Parish President to prey on children," said recall supporter and resident, Mike Bowler. "And at the end of the day that’s what it comes down to.”

The Harahan City Council voted unanimously to pass the resolution that requests Yenni resign. This means these two cities now join Gretna, Westwego and the Jefferson Parish Council in making this formal request.
